Short Term
Short term relief is exactly how it sounds Short. When I look for short term relief it’s usually about drowning out: pain, uncomfortable, or antsy sensations. I drown it out by watching a bunch of youtube videos, eating a lot of ice cream, endlessly listening to music. Loud, bright, intense, these behaviors dull the nerves. Everyone has their own flavor of numbing. Leaving us not as able to hear. Even too much deep tissue can do this. I had a client we were doing myofascial release (a gentle style of bodywork) with and one week he came in and he had noticeably regressed. I asked what did you do? “I was really digging in because I wanted to break it loose and get it done.” Get it done, that idea that somehow a person can sprint a marathon. When we’re in pain our body thinks emergency! We need to address it right now! The problem is the real solutions don’t hit right now they build in effectiveness. Working out, meditation, massage, supportive relationships, healthy diet. Watering them with consistency to experience the benefits. It’s worth it.
