Pointless, Potent, or Poison
In our advertising world we hear many promises but whatever solution they are trying to sell leaves out a major factor: dosage. The term for the amount something takes to work but this amount changes whether something is pointless, potent, or a poison.
Take working out as an example:
Pointless: Working out once a month won't produce any results.
Profound: Working out a few hours a week, that golden zone.
Poison: Trying to lift something too heavy with bad form that’s just injury waiting to happen.
Moving Away from the "Cure" Mindset
What makes dosage difficult is when you start you don’t know how much is right for you. But the drive for fast results pushes to two extremes, I tried it once it didn’t work or we just need to push harder. In bodywork, this leads to people giving up after one session or asking for pressure so extreme, it leads to more tension and inflammation. This push for instant leads to missing things that work or taking dangerous risks.
What’s the mindset shift. It’s from the Cure - that this remedy will instantly and magically help this to a tool - that learning how to use it is how we get the most out of it.
The Journey of Discovery
Listening is our Guide to this reality. What I’ve discovered working with people is that slowing down and seeing how the body responds leads us finding the pointless, profound, and poison. The patience gives the amount of time to see what works and keeps from taking reckless risks. This is how a person discovers the dosages that work for them, in the specific times they need it. Switching from one size fits all to tailored. Wouldn’t you want the things in your life to fit? I invite you to Explore this. take something that you consistently do in your life and change the amount see what happens.
