Is it safe. . ?
Ancient vs modern discovery. There is a struggle I’ve come to see. It’s the complete reliance on studies for dialogue. Tinkering for most of our history and still currently, it’s still a primary means of discovery. Trying stuff till finding something that works. Untested solutions face resistance to adoption. Which they should be. Slowly adopting things over time is a way of slow R and D over time.
Going to drop a health heuristic today. History and Related matters.
Long history of use | requires more evidence to disprove efficacy and safety
Example Cupping 3,000+ years of use as a healing modality. A few small studies have inconclusive results about efficacy. Those studies aren’t enough evidence to view cupping as ineffective.
Short history of use | requires more evidence to prove efficacy and safety
Processed sugar has only been created at scale in the last 200 years studies are showing it actually not safe.
If related things are dangerous. Higher need to prove safety | glyphosate is a defoliant. Agent Orange is also a defoliant. Agent orange causes birth defects, DNA damage, neuropathy, skin conditions to name a few. Like things are extremely toxic and dangerous.
If related things are safe. Lower need to prove safety | Hyperbaric chambers are related to diving and breathing pressurized oxygen. The dangers of diving are dangers in the ocean or coming up too quickly. Hyperbaric chambers aren’t in the ocean and have stable controls to control ascent and descent. They give pressurized oxygen to old people all the time. Related things have some risks but they are commonly practiced by many people. Like things are safe if used properly.
